Quick Healthy Snacks for Kids

With childhood obesity being so prominent in our society, many parents are wondering what kinds of foods to serve their children. Here are a few quick and healthy snacks that your children will enjoy. They can even assist in the preparation!

1. Ants on a Log
This is a fun and easy snack to make with the kids. All you need is celery, peanut butter, and raisins. First wash and cut the celery stalks into bite size logs. The spread the peanut butter. The final step is placing the ants on the log. Place the raisins on top of the peanut butter. You now have a fun and healthy snack that your kids will love!

2. Fresh Fruit
You may not think that your kids will eat it, but fruit is sweet. Kids love sweet! It also comes in many colors and textures. Find the fruit that is right for your child and serve it to them as a healthy snack!

3. Peanut Butter Crackers
This is also a quick snack for the kids to help make. Just two crackers with peanut butter in the middle. Serve with a glass of cold milk (or Silk) and let your kids enjoy!

4. Quesadilla
This is one that my kids love! All you need is a tortilla and some cheese. To jazz it up you can add some salsa. This can be made in a skillet or on your trusty George Foreman Grill. Takes less than five minutes to prepare. Just be sure to let it cool before the kiddies take a bite!

5. Smoothie
This is fun and quick. All you need is yogurt, juice, and your child's favorite fruit. If the fruit is not frozen you may want to add a few ice cubes for a more slushy texture. Just pop these items in the blender and you have yourself a smoothie. Serve with a twisty straw and the kids will love it!

Hope you enjoy these quick and healthy snacks! Leave some of your favorite snacks in the comments section!

Baking the perfect chocolate chip cookie!

The first thing that you will need to do is gather the ingredients that you need. You will need:

1 cup Butter, softened
1 cup White Sugar
1 cup Brown Sugar
2 Eggs
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
2 teaspoons Hot Water
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
3 cups All-purpose Flour
2 cups Semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped Walnuts (Optional)

Once you have all of these ingredients, you are ready to begin baking.

First step: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Next you are ready to mix together your ingredients. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until it is smooth. Make sure the butter is nice and soft so that it is easy to work with and mixes well with the sugar. You don't want it to be lumpy but creamy. Then beat in the eggs one at a time. Then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt and baking powder. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Mix until you have a nice creamy mixture and the ingredients are mixed together well. Drop large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans. Make sure that your cookies are spaced about 2 inches apart so that they don't end up being one large cookie (unless that's the look you are going for, lol).

Bake for about 10-12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.

Let cool for about 2 minutes before you remove them from the cookie sheet so that they have a chance to firm and not break.

Enjoy with your favorite beverage! Mine is coffee! Your cookies should be firm on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. To me, these are the perfect chocolate chip cookies.

Remember, as with any recipe you should add your own twist. Don't feel bound by the recipe. Someone had to come up with the recipe that you are using and they did that by using their creativity and trying new things! Happy baking!
